Bees and the Mesquite Tree

A lot of rain during the monsoon season usually means a lot of blooms in March and April. Mesquite trees have “perfect” yellow blossoms and Tucsonans start to feel the effects of pollen in the air. The Mesquite tree’s small flowers also contain a great deal of nectar and attract hordes of bees.

It is Bee Season.
Bees are active during the spring, when they are looking to set up hives. Most bees found in Tucson are now considered Africanized honey bees due to cross breeding with the common garden honey bee known as the European honey bee. Both bees look the same. They have the same sting and venom. Both bees act in the same manner and should be handled with caution, regardless of type.

If you discover a hive in your Mesquite tree, do not attempt to remove it yourself, as doing so is highly dangerous. We are experienced with removing hives safely and we can also advise you on how to prevent bees from building future nests in the same location.  Keep reading this article to learn more about bee removal and what methods you can use to get rid of bees on your property.

What is Bee Removal?

If you have a colony of bees that have built their nest on your property, it can be very inconvenient as a homeowner. Not only does this put you and your family at risk of stings, but these bees may also find their way into your home.

Bee removal is the easiest way to relocate a nest or swarm of bees in a humane way. First, you need to identify what type of bees are on your property. Honeybees are typically less aggressive and friendlier than others, like yellow jackets or wasps. We can help you determine what types of bees you have on your property and the best method for bee removal.

Methods of Removal

There are several methods that you can use to get bees off of your property. This includes live bee removal, where they will gather the bees and take them off of your property, as well as the use of pesticides to kill any bees on your property.

Here are the most common methods of bee removal.

RELOCATION

The first method of bee removal is catch and release. In these situations, a company will remove the bees from your property. Then, they will take the bees to another location. If these bees are not relocated with their queen, they will likely become aggressive and may not be able to get enough food and water.

ELIMINATION

Sometimes, it is not possible to take care of a bee problem with live bee removal. If the bees are located in an area that is dangerous for humans or if they are too aggressive, the only other option is to use pesticides to eliminate the problem.

Some cases that require eradication are if the beehive is in a place that makes it impossible to gain access. For example, some bees will nest inside concrete walls, in the bottom of a large tree, and in other places which make it impossible to extract the hive.

Other bees are Africanized, which are more aggressive and may even be deadly. In these situations, it is safest to use pesticides to kill the bees.

Why Hire a Professional Bee Removal Company

There are a few reasons why it is best to hire a professional bee removal company to take care of your bee problem.

  • First, they may be able to provide more humane options for bee removal. If you want to relocate the bees rather than killing them, we can find a bee removal expert that can do this in a safe way.
  • Next, it is important to hire a professional because they have the gear to protect them from stings. Even if you aren’t allergic to bees, bees can still be quite dangerous, especially when you are disturbing their nests.
  • A bee removal expert will have proper protective gear to keep them safe as they remove the nest or swarm of bees.
  • Finally, hiring a professional bee removal company will ensure that the bees are properly removed. If you do this on your own, you may find that you cannot get rid of all the bees. If you do not get rid of the entire hive, other bees may nest in the same hive later. Bee removal companies will be able to completely solve your problems and will make sure they get the job done right.
